Cochem on the Moselle

Cochem, an old German town, is located in the Rhineland-Palatinate province. The town is idyllically situated on a bend in the river Moselle, surrounded by vineyard slopes. The Reichsburg towers above the city. Viewed from the Moselle, this looks like a picture from a fairy tale. Cochem is a very attractive town. Narrow streets with half-timbered houses are built against the hill, leading up to a fairytale castle. In the summer you can stroll along the Mosel boulevard and enjoy all the delicious wines produced by the wineries in the area in the sun. Several restaurants and tasting rooms offer tastings of these famous Moselle wines. Cochem itself, but certainly also the surroundings are more than worth a visit. In addition to Cochem, there are more beautiful old villages in the area, such as Beilstein and Ediger. In the summer months, the area is very popular for touring by motorbike or exploring on foot and by bike. In addition, various bus tours and river cruises call at the city.

Guided tour in the Reichsburg

A visit to the Reichsburg should be on every visitor to Cochem's list. The 1000 year old Reichsburg Cochem is the striking landmark of the Moselle town of Cochem. The structure is visible from afar in the green of the striking hill on which it is built. The imposing castle is located at a height of more than 100 meters. Due to its strategic location in the terrain, the castle was almost impregnable in earlier times. Excavations have yielded ancient fragments of the Romanesque architectural style (c. 1050 AD). In this early time the castle was formed and developed into what it is today. Heavy broad walls with a high tower made it an impressive fortification. Not only is the Burgt beautifully authentically furnished, the view from the balcony is also unique. For a modest fee, the guide will tell you all the details about this castle, with the wonderful well and the secret room. A visit to this castle is a special experience not only for adults, but also for children.
