Cochem on the Moselle

Cochem, an old German town, is located in the Rhineland-Palatinate province. The town is idyllically situated on a bend in the river Moselle, surrounded by slopes with vineyards.

The Reichsburg towers above the city. Viewed from the Moselle, this looks like a picture from a fairytale. Cochem is a very attractive town. Narrow streets with half-timbered houses are built against the hill, rising to a fairytale castle.

In the summer you can stroll along the Moselle boulevard and enjoy in the sun all the delicious wines produced by the winegrowers in the area. Several restaurants and tasting rooms offer tastings of these famous Moselle wines. Cochem itself, but also the surroundings are well worth a visit.

Besides Cochem there are more beautiful old villages in the area, such as Beilstein and Ediger. In the summer months, the area is very popular for touring by motorbike or exploring on foot or by bike. In addition, various bus trips and river cruises visit the city.

Guided tour of the Reichsburg

A visit to the Reichsburg should have every visitor to Cochem on the list. The 1000-year-old Reichsburg Cochem is the striking landmark of the Moselle town of Cochem. The building is visible from afar in the green of the striking hill on which it is built. The imposing castle is located at a height of more than 100 meters. Due to its strategic location in the site, the castle was almost impregnable in earlier times. Excavations have revealed ancient fragments of the Romanesque architectural style (ca.1050 AD). In these early days the castle was formed and expanded into what it is today. Heavy wide walls with a high tower made it an impressive defense.

Not only is the Burgt beautifully and authentically decorated, the view from the balcony is also unique. For a modest amount, the guide will tell you all the details about this castle, with the wonderful well and the secret room. A visit to this castle is a special experience not only for adults, but also for children.
